ABOUT NANCY KRAMER

Nancy Kramer became a full-time mediator in 2005, after a long and varied career as an attorney. In the mid-90s, supervising government litigators, she decided to explore alternative ways of resolving disputes. She quickly became convinced of the value of mediation because of the speed of resolution, substantial cost savings and ability of the parties to craft their own solutions.

After training to become a mediator, she began mediating cases successfully. It was such interesting and gratifying work that she decided to establish her own dispute resolution practice.

Mediation and group facilitation vary greatly from case to case and require much flexibility and intuition on the part of the mediator. Nancy finds the breadth of her past legal experience to be a real plus. Her years in court and supervising other litigators—for the New York State Attorney General’s Office, the Legal Aid Society and the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG)—give her an understanding of litigation. As well, her long experience as a supervisor gives her deep familiarity with workplace issues and empathy for those involved. And, years of helping people resolve conflicts without resorting to litigation are a plus in assisting families and other parties in conflict situations.

Nancy mediates privately, as well as for the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the New York court system (Supreme Courts and Appellate Division, First Department), New Jersey Superior Courts, United States Postal Service and United States Transportation Security Administration.

In addition to mediating cases and facilitating group disputes, Nancy arbitrates for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). She regularly teaches Continuing Legal Education courses, lectures and writes on mediation.
